About
Produced by Alan Hall Duration: 56'32"
First broadcast 2nd August 2003, BBC Radio 4 Re-broadcast 26th February 2005, BBC Radio 4
Broadcast in The Archive Hour on BBC Radio 4, this programme expanded upon the 'Lost and Found Sound' story
by Christina Egloff and Jay Allison, which originally featured in 'The Vietnam Tapes'.
Lance Corporal Mike Baronowski was killed in action on 29 November
1966. He left behind not just memories of the Vietnam war, but an
extraordinary legacy of recordings which he had sent home to family and
friends. They contain vivid and often comic reflections on his
battle-field environment and experiences. The story of his life and
death is told through the tapes, which were left to collect dust on top
of a cupboard for thirty-odd years, and from the differing perspectives
of two Marine comrades and Baronowski's own brother and sister.
A Loftus production.
Lance Corporal Baronowski's Vietnam was awarded the Gold
Feature Sony Award and submitted by the BBC for the Prix Italia in 2003.
Life After Vietnam was a follow-up to the story and was broadcast on BBC Radio 4 in 2005.
